DESTINY'S CHILD
Duke's Story
Duke had lived most of his puppyhood tied to a wall outside.  His parents were both very busy, they both worked full time and didn't have any time to train him.  An elderly woman (in her 80's) decided she would help Duke, so she took him into her home.  Duke had never lived in a nice warm home and never had any training.  He was still an intact male, and was marking the house.

He was with this woman for about 12 weeks.  She knew she was in over her head, and called Rescue.
NJ Home of the Homeless Cocker Rescue said they would take the dog into their rescue.  As luck would have it, Duke was in another state, so NJ Rescue called us, Cockers in Need, to see if we could get him and keep him until we could meet up.

Patti, one of our volunteers, lived only 10 minutes away from Duke so she went to see him and bring him to us.  We met at a local shopping center in Maple Glen, PA.

While we were walking Duke around, a woman came up to us, asking if the doggy was just out shopping.  We were in a local pet supply store, and Duke was given a few treats and was just bouncing around all happy go lucky.

We explained that Duke was just brought into rescue, and that we had only had him for a half an hour.  We briefly explained his situation and this woman asked me for my rescue business card.

WELL, about 2 hours later, this woman called me to see how Duke was doing.  She explained that she talked to her husband, and they think they would like to adopt Duke.  Her husband said "It must be destiny".  This couple had lost a beloved golden retriever and were thinking about getting a friend for their cockapoo.  The woman, Eileen, called me a second time to discuss Duke further.  They're just so excited about possibly adopting Duke into their family.

Duke is one of those dogs that loves everything.  He still has some puppyhood in him, he's only 1 1/2 years old. He's a georgous red cocker spaniel with a delightful personality.  We ran a few behavior tests on him and he passed with flying colors.  Duke and I sat on the couch together & he leaned on me with all his might.  Just wanted to cuddle and be close.  He wants so badly to be loved that he mushes right next to you.

After making all the necessary reference checks and a dozen phone calls later, Duke went to meet his new family and see his new home.

Duke (aka Tyler) was only with us for 2 days.  He was a pleasure to have around.  It's so nice to see a dog be happy for the first time.

I expect many new first's in his new home.  I heard the king size bed was just waiting for him.

Talk about being in the right place at the RIGHT TIME!!!!
Ohhhhh, this feels good!
My new sister is fun!
